Module Code: L32574
Level 6

Units covered:
The specific learning outcomes are not grouped into units for this module.

Brief:

Students will create a ceramic piece of sculpture under the theme “self portrait”.

Students are required to brainstorm the idea of their own self portrait, and collect objects or personal memorobillia that they feel represents aspects of their life, or them as a person. These objects will begin the basis for their research and design work for the project.

Once a suitable design has been ahieved, students will employ techniques in mod-roc casting to cast their own face, which they will use as a mould for clay. They will use this clay representation of their own face as a basis for a ceramic personality portrait.

All research work including preparatory sketches, collected imagery, photographs, technical notes and images and sketches of relevant artist's work should be contained in an A4 notebook.

General Aims:

To explore the characteristics and possibilities of clay as a material

To develop a personal, creative and expressive response to clay

To develop a competence in translating and planning designs from 2D into 3D

To develop critical skills toward your own work and that of others
